About the Italian Heritage Society
The heart of Italian Culture beats strongly in the State of Michigan. The Italian community and the community of Italophiles enjoy and celebrate this great cultural heritage, rich with art, literature and culinary treasures. The Italian Heritage Society is dedicated to both the preservation and advancement of the Italian culture in Michigan.
The Italian Heritage Society is an outgrowth of the Italian Heritage Room located at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Heritage Room Benefactors, Donors, Contributors and Sponsors worked together to form this organization to manage the future of the Heritage Room. Since this time, the organization has grown to support the furtherance of Italian culture, both abroad and at home. Ongoing relationships and partnerships include the Italian Studies Program at Wayne State University, the Hilberry Theatre at Wayne State University, the Italian Consulate in Detroit, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Film Theatre, numerous film venues throughout the country and the corporate business community.
The Italian Heritage Society is dedicated to the highest quality of programs. Diversity and unity is of utmost importance. We work to promote an appreciation of the arts, literature, languages, humanities, and sciences that have flourished since Italian Renaissance forward.
The Italian Heritage Society of Michigan is a non profit 501 (C3) corporation. All fund-raising proceeds at this time benefit the creation of the Italian Heritage Society Endowment Fund to establish a Professorship / Endowed Chair in Italian Studies and Research at Wayne State University. This project recognizes the importance of continuing the Italian Program at Wayne State University, which has played an important role there for more than 100 years.
