Pane e Tulipani

Pane e Tulipani is an Italian film directed by Silvio Soldini, starring Licia Maglietta, Bruno Ganz, and Giuseppe Battiston. Bread & Tulips, a romantic comedy, is about a woman\'s search for self-fulfillment among the routine habits and heavy responsibilities of everyday life. Soldini traces an under-appreciated housewife\'s journey from a complacent nuptial bed along the Adriatic coast to a lighthearted romantic freedom among the back alleys of Venice.

A 'Blissfully Romantic' film, Pane e Tulipani is Soldini's fourth feature.  The others are L'Aria serena dell \'ovest (1900) which was awarded the Grand prix at the Annecy Film Festival, Un\'anima divisa in due (1993), and Le Acrobate (1997) award-winner at the Paris Rencontres Internal de Cinema and winner of Sacher d'Oro Award as Best Film of the Year.

Silvio Soldini is an important young filmmaker. The success of Soldini\'s Pane e Tulipani is realized by the many international film festival prizes and awards it has received. A major box office hit in Italy, his most recent film, Brucio nel Vento (I Burn in the Wind, 2002) represented Italy in the Festival of Cinema in Berlin and is awaiting public release in the United States.
